School Milk Subsidy Scheme (SMSS)

Today, Welsh Government has launched a consultation on the future administration of the School Milk Subsidy Scheme (SMSS) in Wales.

The current administration arrangements with the Rural Payments Agency are due to come to an end in March 2027. As a result, Welsh Government is seeking views on options for future delivery arrangements from April 2027 onwards. These options include introducing a new Welsh scheme to continue dedicated support for milk provision in schools or ending the dedicated SMSS.

The SMSS has supported the provision of milk in maintained schools across Wales for many years and we are keen to hear the views of stakeholders on the potential implications of the proposed options.

We would be grateful if you could review the consultation and submit your views before the closing date of 4 January 2027. Please also feel free to share details of the consultation within your networks.
